A Cosmic Roar is a series of photogravure prints featuring motifs based on visualizations of dust grains from meteorites, created by Buhl using an atomic force microscope. These grains contain particles older than the solar system—over 4.5 billion years old. The series emerges from her collaboration with astrophysicist Anja Cetti Andersen and nanophysicist Tue Hassenkam from the University of Copenhagen.

The microscopic readings of the dust grains are digitally transformed into 3D models that resemble black-and-white landscapes; peaks, valleys, and turbulent lava seas. By rendering these images as photogravures, Buhl utilizes the medium’s tactility to highlight the physicality of the microscopic particles and their mesmerizing journey through time and space.
