The installation Garden Scenes is a site-specific work for the baroque garden of Gl. Holtegaard Museum, Denmark. It takes as its inspiration Resnais and Robbe-Grillet’s film Last Year in Marienbad (1961) and the Baroque-era’s concept of designing parks as a series of theatrical sets.

Last Year in Marienbad is a hypothetical love story, which is set in a baroque castle and its surrounding park. The film’s narrative unfolds through ambiguous conversations between a man and a woman as they explore the park landscape. In the gardens of the Holtengaard Museum, Buhl reconceives of the ornate park as a dramatic site, installing 18 signs throughout the gardens, each with an engraved text fragment from the film’s conversations.
