Notes – Tivoli

Site-specific installation made for KBH Kunsthal (2006)
Ink drawings and text on drawing foil

Tivoli is a 19th-century amusement park located in Copenhagen, distinctive for its Orientalist architecture. The park has, over time, become a strange national symbol. Tivoli was inspired not so much by the Orient as by the Orientalist architecture found in London and Paris. In the period after Denmark’s loss of Southern Jutland to Germany in 1864, there was a movement to define the national identity as “non-German” by aligning Denmark with England and France. The site-specific installation Notes – Tivoli is an attempt to examine the signification of the park and its origins.
